Interior Design Trends Paris, Maison et Objet 2019

My Point of View

We live in such an exciting time. In January there is a major international design show in Paris – Maison et Objet – showing the latest interior design trends. And, I am able to have a virtual front row seat since I am receiving daily emails from my contacts at the show. I’m excited to be able to share some of my favorite trends being reported direct from Paris.

Color of the Year – Living Coral

No surprise that there is a lot of coral showing up in furniture and accessories since Pantone named Living Coral the “Color of The Year”.  But you don’t need to take the color too literally – some very vibrant tones are being shown, but the quieter tones such as cantaloupe, are also showing up. I’m loving the softer shades.

Statement Making Matte Black

Matte Black, another one of the important interior design trends in Paris, will definitely add a unique type of sophistication to your interior. So before you run out for some coral pillows to update your sofa, you might consider where you can add Matte Black to your decorating scheme. Be dramatic, add a contrast, be bold – think black furniture and accessories. I love making a statement with black. For example, I can’t wait to use that black animal print wallpaper shown below.

Mellow Colors – Metallics

Continuing a strong trend, gold metallics are showing up across the board. How about this spectacular polished brass armoire accented with jewelry statement hardware? Stunning! Although, it is easy to go overboard with too much of a good thing – caution, every finish should not be gold – I love the statement this spectacular piece makes.

Always in Fashion – Animal Prints

Animal prints never go out of fashion. However, they just get reinterpreted for the current time. Not sure if dragons fall into this category, but this rug is spectacular! Colors, of course, totally on trend – are gold and black. Certainly you could add this great area rug in a dramatic entry, great room or gentleman’s library.

Mid-Century Modern – Paris Update

Still a major one of the interior design trends in Paris, Mid-Century Modern is not going away. Seating and lighting are keys in creating this look. Although not my favorite style, I really love the lighting and the gold finished credenza in this setting and I would welcome adding those key pieces to some of my clients’ rooms. If you want to add Mid-Century pieces to your mix, look carefully. Therefore, I recommend selecting pieces that have been reinterpreted for today for a timeless look.

Live Greenery – For Every Interior Room

No surprise that live greenery is a hot – oops – “cool” trend. Nothing like a large live plant to add color or fill an empty corner. Consequently, live walls are no longer just for the office, but can be found in residences as well. When considering a live plant, get the largest possible. Above all, it’s best to make a statement with a spectacular tree, large scale is always better. However, if you have a brown thumb – no worries, live plants are relatively inexpensive and can always be replaced – or spoil yourself with a plant service.
